Win Yourself a Race Car
Having previously raced in a 24 Hours of LeMons event (you can watch our video of the event here), we’re big fans of the series that only allows cars worth $500 or less on the track. Now, the ever helpful promoters of the series are helping get a new team on the track by giving away a 1958 Wartburg.
If you are anything like us, your first reaction to this news probably was, “What’s a Wartburg?” Don’t be ashamed, lacking this piece of knowledge won’t cost you your gearhead I.D. card. According to the good folks at LeMons, a Wartburg is “East Germany’s Buick to Trabant’s Chevrolet.” Yeah, we don’t know what a Trabant is, either. Still, they’re giving away a car!
But don’t get too excited. This interesting piece of East German engineering has such radical design quirks as the engine placed between the radiator and the grill. Not shure how that’s going to help keep things operating at the proper temps during racing conditions!
Still, it’s not just a car. Along with this piece of vintage European metal, you will receive a year’s supply of Bactine and free entry (without BS Penalty laps) to the LeMons race of your choice (after you have completed the necessary prep like installing a roll cage and five-point racing harness). All you have to do is write the best essay explaining why you should win said Wartburg. Entry deadline is September 1, 2009. And you can submit your works of literature here. For more information check out the 24 Hours of LeMons website.
Oh, and good luck!
