Autoblog just posted a fantastic in-depth look at the Hyundai Genesis PM580 unlimited class monster that Rhys Millen is building for this year’s assault on Pike Peak.

Millen’s goal is to break the magical 10 minute barier getting up the mountain, and every component on this car is designed to help him get there. Power comes from practically the only thing that’s actually a Hyundai component on this car–the block and heads. The turbocharged 4.1 liter V6 engine puts out 750 horsepower and 775 lb/ft of torque–especially impressive considering the car weighs in at a measly 1,900 pounds.

Interestingly, despite using a race car that’s almost 100 percent fabricated by hand, Millen will be using tires right off the shelf. Toyo 275/40/17s are outfitted on all four corners because Millen says full-on race tires are too soft and do not last all the way to the top of the mountain considering the track’s rough surfaces.
