Nitrous for New Camaros

Zex CamaroYou knew it was coming, and now it’s here. Zex has officially hit the market with the first nitrous system specifically for the new 2010 Chevy Camaro equipped with the LS3 V8 engine. The kit is tuned to safely add between 75 to 175 horsepower (which equals approximately one second in the quarter mile) thanks to Zex’s Activue Fuel Control system. Active Fuel Control adjusts fuel delivery as bottle pressure drops so that the engine never runs too rich or too lean while spraying.

Put LS Heads on a SBC Block

Motown blockBill Mitchell and World Products have been providing race quality block and cylinder head castings for years, but they may have outdone themselves with this one. When Mitchell was faced with a $570,000 bill to replace the worn out tooling to produce World’s small block chevy block, he decided to get his money’s worth. The new block not only features several structural, oiling and cooling improvements, it also is the first mass-produced small block casting that can accept more efficient LS cylinder heads.

Win Yourself a Race Car

Having previously raced in a 24 Hours of LeMons event (you can watch our video of the event here), we’re big fans of the series that only allows cars worth $500 or less on the track. Now, the ever helpful promoters of the series are helping get a new team on the track by giving away a 1958 Wartburg.

If you are anything like us, your first reaction to this news probably was, “What’s a Wartburg?” Don’t be ashamed, lacking this piece of knowledge won’t cost you your gearhead I.D. card. According to the good folks at LeMons, a Wartburg is “East Germany’s Buick to Trabant’s Chevrolet.” Yeah, we don’t know what a Trabant is, either. Still, they’re giving away a car!

Crane Cams is Back in Business

It looks like Crane Cams may finally be about to begin helping us make more power once again. The company, which had gone through several ownership upheavals before closing its doors in February, was purchased in April by S&S Cycle, which specializes in V-twin motorcyles. It turns out that when S&S bought Crane’s assets in an auction, they had a deal to sell off the automotive side of things, which fell through. You can read a very interesting story on that in the Daytona Beach News-Journal.

First Look at NASCAR Mustang

There have been rumblings for quite some time about NASCAR trying to move its Nationwide Series out from underneath the shadows of the Sprint Cup Series by making the cars at least look different. Well, it looks like that is finally going to happen, and Ford is leading the way.

The Nationwide Series will welcome sportier-styled cars beginning with the 2010 season, and Ford has answered the call by developing a Mustang body for use in competition. It has just released preliminary renderings of the car today and promises more information and a full reveal of the car in the fall. Hopefully, this means we will also see Dodge Challengers and Chevy Camaros joining the Mustang on the track as well.

You can read the full release from Ford after the break. Also, please take a moment to post in the forums whether you think this will help improve interested in the Nationwide Series, or is it simply destined to remain the weak sister to  the Sprint Cup Series? (more…)

24 Hours of LeMons and the Pig Rig

If you have checked out this site before, you may have already seen the series of videos on racing in the one-and-only 24 Hours of LeMons event last spring. If you haven’t,  you can find them here. In addition to shooting the video for Street Muscle Action, I also covered the buildup of the Honda Accord and the race in two issues of Circle Track Magazine.

If you are interested in seeing how our little Honda went together, you can read all about it in the buildup article, which Circle Track has online here. I thought it was interesting because it was the first time we had worked with a fuel-injected front wheel drive car. I’ll try to follow up when Circle Track posts the race coverage as well.
